The Use of Illustrations

In order to make good arguments it is often useful to provide illustrations and thought experiments to make a point. Indeed this is a mark of good philosophy. Now I make no claim to be a philosopher - certainly not professional one! -  but I have realised that many of my arguments could be better made with the provision of examples and that is what I am starting to do in these posts. However this is a work in progress and I will say that I am not happy with my illustration in  my previous post. Still I will try and and try again until I get a better handle on the use of illustrative examples in support of my  arguments.

You should. You are one. Remember, the word "amateur" derives from "amor": one who pursues some activity purely for the love of it.

Fair enough. Just on my own account, I wasn't deeply offended, and I did understand the more-or-less benign spirit of your remarks.
